Tutorials on Rails, Ruby, PHP, Magento, X-Cart, Drupal, etc…

Me and Steve work with a lot of different languages/frameworks/programs/cms/carts/etc… all day pretty much everyday and I often think that I should write some sort of tutorial about any of them and some of the stuff the we deal with and how we fix things or do somethings. So since I never know what I should write about I am going to just post this message and let people ask for tutorials on the following things and if I can then I will post something for you. I can’t guarantee that I will know but I might be able to or at least point you in the right direction.

Are there any tutorials for altering skins for Magento e-commerce?

  2. Hi Michael,

The best one I have seen is the one from Magento. It seems to just kind of point you in a direction and assumes you have themed other systems like this. You could probably take a look at some other systems like X-Cart and get a good feel for how to change things around a bit.

Everyone really complains about their template engine and until some people just tough through it and release some other good themes to use for reference or until they document it better then I think it will continue to be a pain. This is a great example of how I think they could of left this out for now, used Smarty, etc… and just focused on what people NEEDED in a 1.0 release.

We have stayed away from Magento for the time being to allow it some time to get a little better. For now it was way to slow for us and compared to a few other carts we thought our clients would have trouble using it to run their stores.

Sorry can’t be more help in this area. Hope that you find some good documentation or tutorials.
