Fire Eagle, Complaints and Questions

Today I got an invite to a new(erish) site called Fire Eagle. It is made by Yahoo and is basically like Twitter in my opinion except instead of saying what you are doing you say where. Yahoo is putting it off as letting your users sign in through your site and then your site will know where they are so it can serve them better content suited to their area.

This is part will I will list some complaints. As neat as this sounds and all, well it will to some people, I don’t see how this could really get huge unless it is targeted at a certain market. For example I considered writing a small script to allow people to login and then see trails, from a site called GroovyAdventures.com, that are close to them. I really don’t see the average end user actually going through the trouble though when to do this they would have to login to Fire Eagle, update their location, then search for trails. I know that there will be many programs and are already a few that run on your cell phone and update your location every couple of minutes so maybe it wouldn’t be as bad as I think. I will say now that even though I have an account because I was invited that I don’t think I will use it much and on top of that I think that it will only be used by niche market sites.

Maybe I am way off here so please comment and correct me, but please don’t just post “You are wrong.” Comment and let me know why this is the new hotness and everyone should be using already.
